- What led you into BHRT and this field of medicine?
I felt there was more I could offer my patients beyond the traditional approaches I was prescribing, such as birth control pills and SSRIs that were not always solving the problem, true solutions not just band aids. I wanted to better understand the underlying factors contributing to their symptoms and explore more individualized treatment options. That curiosity led me into hormone medicine and ultimately changed the way I approach patient care.
- What drew you to the BHRT Training Academy?
Donna and Dr. Matthew’s mission to not only empower patients but also educate and support providers really resonated with me. I believe that when we invest in educating providers, we create a ripple effect that allows us to positively impact so many more patients.
- In your role, what do you focus on most when working with providers?
Bridging the gap between education and real-world application. Learning the science is essential, but knowing how to apply that knowledge to the individual patient is where it all comes together. I love helping providers build the knowledge, confidence, and clinical reasoning skills to translate what they learn into meaningful patient care.
- What’s one of the biggest misconceptions providers have about BHRT when they’re getting started?
That hormone therapy is a one-size-fits-all approach, when in reality, it’s one size fits none! Hormones influence so much more than reproduction and sexual health. They play important roles throughout the entire body. Understanding that bigger picture and recognizing that every patient has unique needs is fundamental to providing individualized care.
- What separates providers who truly succeed in BHRT from those who don’t?
A strong educational foundation, ongoing mentorship, and, most importantly, the ability to truly listen to their patients. Successful providers understand the science and pathophysiology but also recognize the art of medicine—knowing how to apply that knowledge to the individual sitting in front of them. They remain curious, continue learning, and recognize the value of having a supportive community of colleagues and mentors
What’s one mindset shift that changes everything for providers in this field?
Learning to think beyond isolated symptoms and look at the whole person. Understand your options, ask deeper questions, and remember that just because something is common doesn’t necessarily mean it’s normal or that a patient has to live with it. Equally important, neither patients nor providers have to navigate this journey alone. Having the right education, resources, and support can make all the difference.
What do you love most about working with providers inside the Academy?
Being part of a community of providers who are genuinely passionate about learning and improving patient care. I love knowing that we’re helping providers access current, research-based information while giving them the mentorship and support to apply it in practice. At the end of the day, we’re all here for the same reason: to be a resource for our patients and for one another. Seeing providers grow in their confidence and clinical knowledge is incredibly rewarding.
What excites you most about the future of hormone medicine?
The growing recognition of the role hormones play in overall health and healthspan. I’m excited about the continued research, evolving treatment options, and the potential for hormone health to become a more accessible and integrated part of everyday healthcare. My hope is that more patients and providers will have the knowledge and resources to make informed decisions about hormone health throughout every stage of life.
For someone considering this field, what would you say to them?
Whether you’re interested in hormone medicine for your patients, your own health, or the health of your loved ones, you can’t afford not to see the value in
understanding it’s impact. Hormones influence nearly every system in the body, and that knowledge can change the way you look at health and patient care. Stay curious, invest in a strong educational foundation, and surround yourself with people who challenge you to keep learning.
When you’re not working, what do you enjoy doing?
I love being outdoors, especially walking on the beach or hiking. And if there’s live music involved, even better!
Fun fact — we have to ask!
I absolutely love dancing at dueling piano bars! Give me great music, a fun crowd, and a dance floor, and I’m there!
